Complete Embedded Firewall Solution Protects Embedded Devices from Internet-based Attacks with Static Filtering, Stateful Packet Inspection and Threshold-Based Filtering
West Des Moines, IA – ( December 7, 2011) – Icon Labs (www.iconlabs.com) a leading provider of embedded networking and security technology, today announced that UBM Electronics’ EDN has named their Floodgate-Packet Filter embedded firewall one of the “100 Hot Products of 2011.” The 2011 EDN Hot 100 highlights the electronics industry’s most significant products of the year based on innovation, significance, usefulness, and popularity.
According to Rich Pell, Executive Editor of EDN and Designlines, UBM Electronics, who oversaw and contributed to the EDN Hot 100, “Icon Labs’ Floodgate-Packet Filter was selected as one of this year’s EDN Hot 100 Products for its promise as a significant contribution to security technology in embedded networking. By providing an embedded firewall that enables network-connected embedded devices to filter data packets before they’re processed, and thus avoid potentially harmful external attacks, this technology helps bring closer the realization of the ‘Internet of Things.’”
“This awards program has been in existence since 1993 and over the years has highlighted many industry trends – this year is no different. We are very pleased to showcase the top products of the many thousands announced during the past year that especially caught the attention of our editors and readers,” added Pell.
The complete list of EDN’s Hot 100 Products can be found online at here or within the December 15, 2011 issue of EDN Magazine.
“The selection of Floodgate to the EDN Hot 100 is a great honor and represents another endorsement of Icon Labs’ leadership in embedded device security, and the importance of firewall technology for embedded devices,” said Alan Grau, President of Icon Labs. “According to IDC, there are now 5 billion devices connected to the Internet and attacks against embedded devices have become front page news. Firewalls have long been a cornerstone of security in home and enterprise networks. Floodgate brings firewall technology to embedded devices, providing protection against a wide range of attacks and closing a critical security loophole.”
Floodgate’s threshold-based filtering protects against denial of service attacks, broadcast storms, and other conditions that result in a flood of unwanted packets. Rules-based filtering allows white-listing and black-listing based on criteria such as port number, protocol, or source IP address. Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) provides dynamic packet filtering based on the state of a connection.
Icon Labs’ Floodgate Firewall is provided as a portable source code library and is easily integrated with any embedded operating system and TCP/IP stack and has been ported to Green Hills Software’s INTEGRITY and VelOSity, Wind River’s VxWorks and LynuxWorks’ LynxOS. Icon Labs Releases the First Complete Embedded Firewall Solution
Floodgate Firewall Protects Embedded Devices from Internet-based Attacks with Static Filtering, Stateful Packet Inspection and Threshold-Based Filtering
Embedded Devices are over 20 times more vulnerable to Internet-Based threats than Enterprise Networks
West Des Moines, IA – (Oct 5, 2011) – Icon Labs (www.iconlabs.com) a leading provider of embedded networking and security technology, today announced the availability of Icon Labs’ Floodgate Firewall with Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI). With the addition of Stateful Packet Inspection, Floodgate is the only embedded firewall providing complete protection against Internet-based attacks.
Researchers from Columbia University’s Intrusion Detection Systems Lab have concluded that embedded devices are over 20 times more vulnerable to Internet-based threats than Enterprise Networks. As network connectivity in embedded devices becomes commonplace and our reliance on these devices grows, so has the importance of protecting these devices from Internet-based threats.
“Compared to industry standard firewalls, Floodgate is a lot smaller and can be integrated at the lowest layers in the network stacks,” said Alan Grau, CEO of Icon Labs. “The small size enables this firewall to be packaged into a wide range of Internet connected devices such as medical devices, utility monitoring systems, web cams, cable modems, routers and mobile devices including phones. Because it works at the lowest layer of the network stack, Floodgate provides the most comprehensive protection possible.”
Floodgate makes it easy to add complete, configurable firewall protection to your product regardless of the embedded platform.
